Free Offers for Health Products

I have come across several free offers for some of the more popularhealth products and supplements. I am posting these in case you are interested in trying any of these products.

Colon cleansing - Because of the limited level of success the medical community has had in treating digestive disorders many people have turned to alternative medicine for relief. Colon cleansing has been one of the more popular alternative health solutions to digestive disorders. The theory is the intestines can store a vast amount of partially digested, putrefying matter (as well as drugs and other toxic chemicals) and the toxins that result are carried into your blood stream. Colon cleansing gets rid of those toxins. Here is a free trial offer from Colon Cleanse Pro:

Acai -There has been a great deal of talk about Acai (ah-sigh-ee). Acai is number one Dr. Perrisone’s (on Oprah) list of top ten superfoods. According to Oprah.com Acai comes from a special Amazon palm tree. The acai berry is harvested in the rainforests of Brazil and is possesses a tremendous combination of things that are good for your health - antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids.

The concentration of anitoxidants (which helps combat premature aging) is 10 times higher in acai than it is in red grapes. Additionally acai has 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine. Anthocyanins are defined as flavonoid pigments found in many varieties of vegetables and fruits. They’re a good source of antioxidants. Acai berry’s anthocyanins help protect the body against cancer cells. Anthocyanins can also help prevent memory loss. Medical research has shown that the anthocyanins within the acai berry have been successful in reducing the likelihood of premature memory loss. Acai berry’s anthocyanins can also assist in preventing heart disease. Here is an offer I found for a free trial of Acai product:

[

Probiotics -Probiotics help the body’s naturally occurring microorganisms do their job. More than 400 different types of bacteria live in the gastrointestinal system and some are good and some are bad. The entire body depends on the colon doing its job properly. The colon’s beneficial bacteria (probiotic) manufacture B vitamins including biotin, niacin, folic acid and pyridoxine. Besides producing the enzyme lactose necessary for digesting milk sugar (lactose), these microorganisms produce antibacterial substances that kill disease-causing agents such as salmonella and some type of E. coli. These bacteria make the digestive tract function at top efficiency.

Probiotics, dietary supplements made of beneficial microorganisms, can reintroduce beneficial bacteria. Many people are familiar with yogurt, which contains acidophilus and other foods that are high in probiotics but you can also get probiotics in supplement form. If you suffer from digestive problems or just want to keep your digestive system functioning at peak efficiency you might consider a probioitc supplement. Here is a free trial offer:

10 Thrifty Tips for Radiant Skin

Posted by Femina on January 31st, 2009

Beautiful skin without spending a lot of cash? It’s true. In fact, you may actually save money on skin care this year, while also boosting your health, lowering your stress level and cleaning out your cabinets.

Skin care guru Celeste Hilling has spent more than 15 years researching and designing products in the quest to help people build and maintain radiant skin. With the ten thrifty tips, this host of “Skin Health TODAY” and CEO of Skin Authority is empowering you to throw away your old ways of thinking, “It’s a new year, and time for a new you to embrace a new way of looking at skin care. Open your eyes, mind and bathroom cabinets to new ideas for skin care and you can keep your wallet closed!”

So, what’s stopping you? Time for the top ten:

1. Out With the Old — discard your beauty products one year after opening them because bacteria can grow in the bottle or jar potentially causing infections or irritation when applied to the skin. Use special caution with jars in which you dip your fingers or hands as those tend to have more active bacteria growth. It’s a good idea to write the date purchased on the bottom of new products so that you know when it has reached the end of its useful life.

2. Simplify your Beauty — you have 20 products on your shelf and don’t have a clue how to use them! Simplify to no more than three to four steps in the morning and at night. In the morning, you need a mild cleanser, an anti-oxidant such as Vitamin C and a sunscreen moisturizer. Before you go to bed, use resurfacing ingredients such as AHAs and retinols in addition to restorative peptides.

3. Wash your Face — it sounds simple and it is, cleaning your skin is one of the most important things you can do when you wake up and before you go to bed. Remove make-up and deep cleanse in one step by using cleansers incorporating AHAs, which are antibacterial and remove dead skin cells.

4. Hands Off — regardless of the urge, keep your hands off your pimples! By pushing and prodding, you are actually pushing bacteria deeper, causing more inflammation and potentially scarring the skin.

5. Stop Smoking — in addition to its negative, carcinogenic effects on your body and overall health, smoking causes premature aging. Cigarette smoke contains more than 4000 toxins, many of which are absorbed directly into the bloodstream and are taken by the blood into the skin’s structure. Smoking also thins the skin, reduces collagen and contributes to an unflattering “apple” body shape in women.

6. More Sleep, Less Stress — we don’t live in a utopian society, so it’s tough to manage enough sleep to make a difference in our stress levels. As one of the biggest impairments to skin care is stress, ease into a good night’s sleep by turning off the television, taking a warm bath, dimming the lights and practicing breathing exercises.

7. Sun Protection — the sun is not your skin’s friend. Use sunscreen every day, rain or shine. To determine the quality of a sunscreen, check the SPF number on the label (those with SPF 15 or greater yield the best results), and the active ingredient label to make sure it has UVA-blocking elements such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or anything in the avobenzone family.

8. Cost Per Ounce — shop for skin care the way that you shop for food, by looking at the cost per ounce. What you’ll find is that products from spas and salons are a great bargain as they include complimentary consultations with a licensed esthetics expert, which you won’t receive when buying products at grocery, drug or discount stores.

9. Don’t Buy Products Based on Price — while we’re on the subject of money, just because a product is expensive, does not mean it’s amazing. On the other hand, a product that costs less may not be a bargain that will work for you. Instead of shopping by price, evaluate the concentration of active ingredients and ensure any treatment product has a pH below four. The human skin ranges from 4.5-5.5 pH. A product should be below the pH level of the skin for maximum penetration. Otherwise, you might as well be using water!

10. Free Skin Care Coaching — in light of the economy, Hilling has developed her own Skin Health Stimulus Package. Everyone now has access to a free phone or online consultation with a licensed professional to help them make safer, wiser choices on where to spend their skin care dollar or better utilize the products they already have. Simply dial 1.866.325.SKIN (7546) and say that you want to join the Beauty Workout.

Vatican Initiates Study of Catholic Sisters Institutes in the United States

Posted by Femina on January 31st, 2009

The Vatican’s Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life has begun an Apostolic Visitation or comprehensive study of institutes of women religious in the United States.

The action was initiated by the Congregation’s prefect, Slovenian Cardinal Franc Rode, C.M. The decree, issued December 22, 2008, indicated the Visitation is being undertaken in order to look into the quality of the life of the members of these religious institutes.

The Visitation will be conducted under the direction of Mother Mary Clare Millea, A.S.C.J., whom Cardinal Rode appointed Apostolic Visitator. Mother Millea, a Connecticut native, is superior general of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an international religious institute headquartered in Rome, with approximately 1,250 professed sisters worldwide, including 135 in the United States. She entered religious life in 1965 and professed perpetual vows in 1973.

The Visitation, which will collect and assimilate data and observations about religious life, will be limited to apostolic institutes, those actively engaged in service to Church and society. Cloistered, contemplative sisters, who have distinctly different lifestyles, are excluded from the study. Mother Millea will submit a confidential report to Cardinal Rode at the conclusion of the task. Though there is no deadline, she hopes to complete the task by 2011.

Catholic women religious have been involved in apostolates such as education, healthcare and a variety of pastoral and social services in the United States since before the nation was founded. According to the Washington-based Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA), however, the number of U.S. women religious has been in decline during the past 40 years, while their median age continues to increase.

“I am truly humbled, and a bit overwhelmed,” Mother Millea said of her assignment. “While I have visited each of the communities and missions in my own congregation, the thought of gathering facts and findings about nearly 400 institutes across the United States can be daunting in scope.”

“I am praying for all the sisters who will be a part of this Visitation, and hoping for their prayers - both for the good of the process as well as for me in this role,” she continued. “I ask the prayers of the American Catholic clergy and faithful too.”

Despite her sense of awe at the size of the task, Mother Millea was encouraged by the project. “I know that the object of this Visitation is to encourage and strengthen apostolic communities of women religious, for the simple reason that these communities are integral to the entire life of the Catholic Church, in the United States and beyond.”

Mother Millea indicated that while she is not obliged to visit every community of women religious, she looks forward to learning and better understanding the “multi-faceted dimensions of the sisters’ religious lives, as well as their abundant contributions to the Church and society.”

A website, apostolicvisitation.org, has been launched to provide basic information about the project.

a nice thing to work from home

Posted by dc on January 30th, 2009

This chinese new year, I decided to spend a bit more time with my family instead of keeping myself busy with visitation. I only managed to visit a close friend who has been working from home since last year.

It was nice to visit her home office and I noticed that she had a couple of cute Fig trees for the occasion. Having a home office has been her dream and I was so glad that she could realize this dream of hers. I believe that there are many mothers who like to work from home if given the opportunity. There is no lack of home based business these days. From multi-level marketing to data entry work to building an internet business from home, all you need to do is to find one that suits you and one that you are passionate about. While working from home is a nice thing, it may not be suitable for everyone. Talk to other work at home women and hear their experiences before making a decision to work from home.

Sensational New Sex Education DVD: The EROS Technique: How to Give a Woman Multiple Orgasms

Posted by Femina on January 29th, 2009

How Any Man Can Give his Woman 15 Orgasms or More in 30 Minutes or Less

The EROS Technique(c) is a new methodology for lovemaking that enables any man to give his woman multiple orgasms. Classy and tasteful, this is thought provoking, original sex advice that works. Presenting new insights and techniques, it’s an aspirational lover’s guide that takes the viewer on a very different journey through lovemaking.

An unlimited capacity for orgasm

Women have “an almost unlimited capacity for orgasm” according to sex researchers Masters and Johnson. There may be no limit to the number of orgasms women can have, the reality is that many don’t even have one. With the global average time spent on sex only being around 5 minutes (according to recent research by the University of Utrecht) the world needs an inspirational lovemaking approach that delivers. This DVD is it.

Presented and narrated by Geoff Barlow, a new name in the field of sex education, two couples demonstrate all the key elements of the technique.

Smouldering hot

Women, unlike men, maintain a high level of arousal following a climax, she’s still smouldering hot. Often, after they’ve both climaxed, they both fall asleep. But she’s still at an orgasmic plateau where further stimulation can trip her into another orgasm and another. Many men don’t realise this. Many women don’t realise it themselves. So if he knows how, and she’d like more, he can give her a second or third climax, or many more.

Orgasmic Triggers

“Penetrative Foreplay” is a new stage to sex during which the man puts her in an altered state of consciousness (”Sensual Trance”). Two couples demonstrate specific Orgasmic Triggers that cause orgasms to happen, and show how combining different Orgasmic Triggers fires almost instantaneous orgasms and a continuous multiple orgasm. Men can use “The Freeze”, an alternative to thrusting, enabling them to last longer and have more fun.

Top 100 list

For any woman compiling a list of “One hundred things I want to experience once,” a multiple orgasm would surely be one of those hundred things. After she’s equipped her man with a copy of The EROS Technique, it’s more likely to become “One thing I want to experience a hundred times.”

Valentines Day seminar

Geoff presented this material at over 25 seminars held in London’s Trocadero. He’s running a special Romantic Weekend seminar for 20 lucky couples this Valentines Day in a Hertfordshire hotel.

“The end of the beginning”

A woman enjoys sex because of the physical and emotional bonding with her man. It’s not always about orgasm. But when it is about orgasm, she can have double figures. Probably a tiny percentage of women experience multiple orgasms, but a huge percentage of women have that capability. Traditionally we think about sex as something that ends with orgasm. How would it be if her first orgasm was the beginning of the evenings lovemaking, rather than the end?

The male taboo

“Once the “sex talk taboo” is put to one side men are genuinely interested in becoming the best lovers they can possibly be,” says Geoff. “Most men have a fascination about the wonders of the female body and how women can have these multi-orgasmic experiences. Almost every man I’ve met who doesn’t already know how to do this, wants to know. For him it’s a different way to do it, a different way to view it.”

Sex tips are like Sainsburys

There are so many sex books out there giving hundreds of ideas about sex and that’s great. Sex Tips are like Sainsbury’s. At Sainsbury’s you can get thousands of ingredients, but you still have to select a few ingredients and blend them together to make a meal. And Jamie Oliver will give you a recipe. This technique is a really flexible recipe that any man can cook up, any way he chooses.”

Guy Fawkes for Guys and Girls

What makes this unique? It’s a unique methodology - putting different ingredients together to get explosive results. It’s Guy Fawkes for guys, and girls. That’s why there’s fireworks in a heart shape on the DVD cover.

It’s a unique DVD, describing and showing, how any man can give a woman a multiple orgasm.

What makes Geoff unique? In a world of female sex experts, here’s a man breaking taboos and giving common sense advice to other men.

It’s credit crunch. It’s winter. People are staying in, saving money. What better than a couple going to bed early, cuddling up and trying this new approach?

The DVD is available for Valentines Day via http://www.amazon.co.uk

Breakthrough in Prenatal Screening for Down Syndrome

Posted by Femina on January 29th, 2009

Lenetix Announces Successful Study of Improved Non-invasive Test Procedure

Lenetix, Inc. announced a significant step in the development of an improved first and second trimester non-invasive fetal chromosomal screening test to detect Down syndrome and other genetic fetal conditions. Lenetix presented preliminary study results at the 29th annual Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Conference in San Diego that indicate a potential breakthrough in testing quality and accuracy while preserving the safety of mother and fetus.

The maternal serum test developed by Lenetix medical director Dr. Stephen A. Brown at the University of Vermont incorporates the use of methylation-sensitive amplification (MSA) of fetal nucleic acid markers. In the preliminary studies, more than ten clinical plasma specimens of various ethnicities provided by clinical partners were tested with clinical partners using the MSA approach developed by Dr. Brown. Data from pilot studies indicate that highly accurate screening for common fetal autosomal (Trisomy 18, 21) and sex chromosomal (47, XXY) chromosome abnormalities is feasible, particularly in the first trimester of pregnancy when MSA features of early pregnancy-derived cells can be leveraged. This approach affords diagnostic confirmation by CVS, an invasive first trimester procedure, or genetic amniocentesis in the early 2nd trimester.

“The technique described by Dr. Brown and his team at Lenetix will create a revolution in prenatal diagnosis,” said study investigator Allan Fisher, M.D., FACOG, FACMG. “This testing will ultimately decrease the number of amniocenteses, and thus reduce the number of miscarriages caused by amniocenteses. It will also help us identify patients who will need an amniocentesis or CVS where we may have missed them before. A better test that produces fewer false positives and negatives drives better patient care, and that’s exciting for the future.”

“Our preliminary results are extraordinarily encouraging, and complement nicely the work of other investigators whose efforts have focused heretofore in the 2nd trimester,” said Lenetix president and CEO Leonard H. Kellner. “Such breakthroughs in improvements of current maternal serum screening for fetal aneuploidy, including fetal Down syndrome, will lead to better quality of screening and most certainly will result in less unnecessary, invasive diagnostic testing.”

Favorite Organizing Tools

Posted by Carmen on January 28th, 2009

Like any other job it easier to do if you have the right tools. Here are some favorites of mine and others I have come across in my travels:

Stackable bins - You can use these for toys, clothes, art-work, papers, school memos, shoes etc. You can buy them in different colors and color code them. A lot families use a certain color for each member of the family. They are cheap and plus you can stack them high and make use of vertical space.

Solid plastic bins on wheels - These are great for kids toys and art supplies because they can wheel them where ever they go and can be pushed into closets to hideaway. I like them for dirty shoes in the laundry room. When I need to mop the floor I just pile all the shoes in there and wheel them out and the floor is clear.

Multi-level organizers - These are free standing open shelf units which can come with or without wheels. In the garage you can use these for sports equipment, gardening supplies, outdoor game equipment and painting supplies. Indoors you can use them to store video game equipment and videos, boxes of craft supplies, magazines and art projects in progress and books. Again you can even assign each child a shelf and keep school items there.

Four drawer organizer - These are made of clear or colored plastic and can be with or without wheels. I use these in the garage to store painting supplies - brushes, gloves, paint stirrer etc. I also use them in the hall closets to store seasonal decorations, replacement light bulbs, and old pictures. These are great for kids toys and art supplies because they can wheel them out when they are needed, pull out the drawers to reach things easily and then put it all back in the easily because the drawers are on the floor at their level. You put the drawers back in the unit and you’re set. I use smaller versions of these four drawer organizers in the bathroom to hold flossers, pony tail bands and razor blade cartridge replacements.

Lead Forward - Organization to help India’s Untouchables

Posted by WomanWork.Net on January 28th, 2009

Did you know the caste system in India still exists today? I remember learning about in school but never thought much about it until my niece joined the Leadforward organization and told me she was going to help the “Dalit” or the “Untouchables” in southern India. The organization is based on the “teach a man to fish” premise. You know, it is better to teach someone how to catch their own fish as opposed to giving them fish. I wanted to do a post about it because Leadforward is a worthwhile organization and I wanted more people to know about it.

In a nutshell, the “Untouchables” are seen as less than human and are segregated from rest of the population. According to the website “They and the caste poor depend on dominant caste people for their livelihoods, struggling daily in slave-like conditions, poverty and hunger.” As you might expect women have a harder time than men and children often have to leave school to find work.

The Leadforward program educates children and gives them leadership training so that they can help their community break out of the cycle of discrimination and poverty. The program follows the theory that education is the key to empowerment of and progress toward a just society. Leadforward feels the education of women is particularly important, so more than half of their students are girls. “To educate a woman is to educate a family.”

Leadforward screens potential students and sponsors their education (starting in the six grade when they are old enough to leave home).About three-fourths of the Leadforward students stand in the top quarter of their classes, with many in the top ten and a surprising number first in their class. Leadforward intends to support their students through college and have graduated about fifty. They currently have 24 in college and expect to have as many as sixty college students two years from now. Obtaining that level of support will be a great challenge for the program.

If you want to know more about the organization here is the link to the website http://leadforwardinc.org/1701.html. If you would like to follow the adventures of an actual volunteer for the organization living and working in southern India here is a link to my niece’s blog http://leadforwardinc.blogspot.com/

Manpower Inc. Calls for Greater Recognition of the Role of Women in the Post-Crisis Labor Market

Posted by Femina on January 28th, 2009

Manpower Inc., a world leader in the employment services industry and strategic partner of the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, released a paper today titled, “The Underworked Solution: Women and the Talent Crunch.” The paper calls for the increased engagement of women in the global workforce as a key component of long-term economic growth and sustainable development.

“To ensure the best possible chance of success in the post-crisis world, employers and governments must look ahead to the challenges of tomorrow, and explore how to expand their workforces,” said Barbara Beck, Manpower Inc. President of EMEA, who is also a member of the Women’s Programme of the World Economic Forum. “The most effective companies have organized themselves to maximize the role of women in their top leadership.” Beck joins David Arkless, President - Global Corporate and Government Affairs, and Mara Swan, Executive Vice President - Global Strategy and Talent, on the Manpower Davos delegation.

“The role of women in the workforce has been on many corporate agendas for some time, and it has yet to be resolved,” said Jeff Joerres, Manpower Inc. Chairman and CEO. “One of our goals at Davos is to elevate the dialogue around the impact of positively addressing this under tapped talent pool.”

Manpower research has long forecasted a growing talent shortage, with the need for workers likely to grow. Economists say the number of service-sector jobs will grow by at least 500 million between 2004 and 2015, while in many countries the number of young people entering the workforce is shrinking due to aging populations. Many parts of the world are facing an economic time bomb, as there will simply not be enough qualified workers to fill the jobs driving much-needed economic growth in the post-crisis world.

The current financial crisis and rising unemployment don’t erase the threat. When the global economy starts to rebound, many organizations will be looking to replace the workers they let go during more troubled times, and to do so quickly to maintain competitive advantage. Long-term trends, such as the growing dominance of the service sector, a shrinking working-age population and the resulting talent shortages in key areas of the economy are likely to worsen as the economy inevitably improves.

At the same time, it is a fact that women are underutilized in the global workforce. According to the OECD, only about 60 percent of women are employed on average in OECD countries. According to the International Labor Organization, in 2007 the employment-to-population ratio at a global level was just 49.1% for women, compared to 74.3% for men. “The Underworked Solution” demonstrates that greater engagement of women in the labor force and the economy is one solution.

“The Underworked Solution” says that in order to encourage greater participation of women in the global labor force, governments, employers and individuals must be willing to make fundamental changes. Inflexible work structures are the biggest global barriers to women in the workforce, and so employers must be willing to shift their talent management strategies towards a truly flexible workforce to ensure women are able to balance their work and home lives, to feel challenged, motivated and reassured of job opportunities. Accordingly, they must start to value results and knowledge gained rather than time spent in the office. And they must clear paths toward rewarding work done flexibly with career advancement.

A copy of the Manpower paper “The Underworked Solution: Women and the Talent Crunch” is available for download at http://www.manpower.com/ResearchCenter.
