International Women’s Day - Power and Passion in Latin America
Posted by Femina on March 5th, 2009International Women’s Day is celebrated globally but has special importance in Latin and South America. Every year Latin Women look forward to this special day that honors them in their many dimensions. Numerous events are held in Latin America throughout March to pay tribute to women for their varied beauty and charm, plus their accomplishments in the many arenas of society in which they excel.
In Latin America, women are increasingly taking important jobs in government. There are women defense ministers in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay, and Chile also has a female president. In many of these countries women have risen to become the majority of professionals including physicians, researchers, teachers and university graduates in addition to a dominating percentage of attorneys and judges in their country’s courts.
But recently there has been a transformation from the political and labor fronts to a more yielding, feminine appreciation that Women’s Day now encourages. As time passed, the vocal demonstrations on Women’s Day promoting empowerment gradually included the irresistible force of love and passion as its motif. And although women still strive for success and equality, their purpose, in addition to political reform, is meant to prompt men to admire and understand women as feminine, emotional beings as well.
It’s perhaps for this very reason Women’s Day has grown into a Major National Holiday in Brazil and is followed closely as a day to exalt women in other Latin nations including Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
Latin America is a continent where women flourish as a sensual and provocative species. On Women’s Day men express their love and appreciation for all the women around them in very touching and sentimental ways. The sale of flowers, already high, rises dramatically. The birth rate, already astronomical, peaks nine months later. Women’s Day is a profound reason to extend the festivities of Carnival well into the Lenten season as an intense sensual celebration of femininity. As a rite of Spring, Women’s day is seen throughout society as the initiation of the coming season and the gift of hope and regeneration that women provide.
LatinWomenSite.com, the premiere online romance resource for men to meet Latin and South American women, celebrates and promotes the holiday by encouraging their membership and men around the world to partake in this special day.
