Flights of Fancy. The feathered headpieces Trends.

Posted by blogs on April 15th, 2009

Some people really love feathers. It’s some kind of natural beauty; the compendia of a numerousness of hues brought together in vibrant patterns governed by nature… all for attracting a man. Just think about the the peacock’s style and grace and you will see what it means. Well, the feather trend has been creeping up on catwalks since Winter 2009, and its about time we all took a flight of fancy!

One of the easiest ways to wear the feather trend is as part of headpieces. With a choice between a cute array on dainty slides or skinny alice bands with shoots of feathers coming off, it doesn’t take a lot of daring to pull it off. Then there’s the next step, for the truly fashion obsessed: the headband.

The headband craze sweeping modern bohemia loves their feathered things. Now headbands can be found made with natural feathers on websites that make unique designs, or in high street chains like Accessorize who specialise in fascinators adorned with them. Think Peaches Geldof and Nicole Richie and you will not be far off in emulating what I’m describing.

If you are brave you can go for the headdress look a la Erin Wasson at Chanel. Wasson looks like a modern day Tiger Lily, conjuring up images of fun and exotic elegance. The accessory brings a playful touch to her otherwise pure white, innocent ensemble.

Feathers are appearing on clothes as well, but be prepared for a more grown up look here. For Winter 2009, feather-trimmed coats at Burberry Prorsum and Donna Karen gave a Russian, Dr. Zhivago feel. Feathers also appeared on evening dresses and pencil skirts at Blumarine and Christian Lacroix. This look harks back to the decadence of the roaring twenties and flapper dresses, and ties in with the fringing trend so big on the catwalks in Spring/Summer 2009. Who is not ready to grow up yet, stick with dressing up; and the most stylish way of doing this for the present is with feathers.

Liang, president of Kaiser Permanente Hawaii, is one of 30 Honorees

Working Mother magazine has named Janet Liang, president of Kaiser Permanente Hawaii, as one of their 30 “Working Mothers of the Year.” Liang is the only honoree from Hawaii. This award is presented annually to extraordinary moms who adeptly balance career, motherhood and self-development with grace and determination.

“We are extremely pleased that Janet Liang was chosen as national Working Mother of the Year because of the inspirational example she sets every day for all working parents,” said Bernard Tyson, executive vice president for Health Plan and Hospital Operations for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals. “Through the support of her family and Kaiser Permanente, she doesn’t have to choose between putting her family’s health and well-being first, while thriving in her career at Kaiser Permanente. She can do both.”

Liang is in good company. This year’s winners include a teacher, several high-powered executives, human resource and information technology professionals, a scientist, a banker, a psychologist and even the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.

“Working moms live complex, rich lives and are at the ready even in times of economic duress, when family dynamics shift and unexpected challenges arise,” said Suzanne Riss, editor in chief, Working Mother. “Today, we are pleased to honor 30 remarkable women for Working Mother magazine’s 30th birthday. In reading their stories and getting to know them, we are humbled by their accomplishments, impressed by their resourcefulness and touched by their devotion to their families and communities.”

Liang became president of Kaiser Permanente Hawaii in 2007. Her achievements include numerous process improvement efforts and clinical advancements. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Liang had a 14-year career with Group Health Cooperative, a Seattle-based health maintenance organization.

Liang has two daughters, ages 7 and 5, and is an active supporter of children’s services and at-risk youth programs. Liang has served on a number of boards for social service agencies. She is a member of the Hawaii Business Roundtable, Healthcare Executive Study Society, Presidents Organization - Hawaii Chapter, board director for Kaiser Permanente Insurance Company, Inc., and trustee on the Le Jardin Academy Board of Trustees, where her daughters attend school.

Liang graduated cum laude from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She earned her master’s degree in health administration from the University of Washington.
