Veterans Day: Honor the brave soldiers!

Posted by Alexandra Reed on May 31st, 2010

memorial-dayVeterans Day or Memorial Day is the day when we honor the brave man and women who fought for our country, who served with honor and dignity this land and paid the price so we can enjoy a simple and yet comfy life. On this day we shall honor our veterans!

Today Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced she has signed a legislation which makes every March 30 of every year the “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day“. The holiday is trying to make us remember the veterans who served the Vietnam war. Ceremonies are to be held each year at the Capitol in Hartford, Connecticut.

I think all of us have had someone in the battlefield, know someone who fought in a terribly war for this country and we’ve heard many stories about brave man in battle. Of course, you can still honor the memory of the veterans by having a nice picnic or a barbecue but don’t ruin the day by wearing t-shirts with the American flag on. It’s against the Flag Code regulations.

President Barack Obama is giving a speech at the cemetery near Joliet, Illinois and will take part in the Memorial Day Service at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. Mr. Obama’s statement mentioned the sacrifice our veterans have made, the tribute we must pay to honor the soldiers who protected the United States of America and the American flag!

The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood is a veterans cemetery and was named after President Abraham Lincoln who is buried in Springfield, Illinois.

Memorial Day 2010

Posted by Raymond Costner on May 31st, 2010

memorial-dayToday is Memorial Day, looked on as the start of the summer season, and a time for family gatherings and sporting events.

But the true meaning of the day is underlined by the continuing sacrifices made by U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The first official observance of Memorial Day was on May 30, 1868, ordered by General John Logan, when flowers were placed on the graves of both Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

From the Civil War through Vietnam, some 566,000 U.S. service personnel died in combat, more than half of them in World War II.

Across the U.S., there are just under 23 million veterans of the armed forces.

2010 National Memorial Day Parade

Posted by Anna Mitchell on May 30th, 2010

memorial-dayThe National Memorial Day Parade Presented by Boeing will take place Monday, May 31, 2010 at 2:00 PM on Constitution Avenue between 7th and 17th Streets NW.

Nearly 300,000 Americans are expected in what has become the nation’s largest Memorial Day event. The parade will include marching bands and musical entertainers, celebrity military supporters, veterans groups, and uniformed military personnel from around the country.

The parade will feature a special tribute to the U.S. Marine Corps and will be led by Grand Marshal General Peter Pace, the only Marine to serve as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Military supporters Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna will once again join the parade, along with former Marine drill instructor and actor R. Lee Ermey, Medal of Honor recipients, and R.V. Burgin, the Marine veteran portrayed in the HBO miniseries, The Pacific.

The parade will come to a pause at 3:00 PM to commemorate the National Moment of Remembrance, during which taps will be played and Anthony Kearns of the famed Irish Tenors will perform Amazing Grace.

The National Memorial Day Parade was inaugurated in 2005, after a nearly 70-year-period in which Washington, DC was without a parade on Memorial Day. It has quickly grown into the largest Memorial Day parade in the nation, with thousands of participants and hundreds of thousands of spectators. It will be televised live nationwide on the Military Channel and the Pentagon Channel.

The parade is founded and organized by the American Veterans Center, a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of our military personnel. The 2010 National Memorial Day Parade is presented by Boeing, with additional support from Hewlitt-Packard, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, American Airlines, The Perot Foundation, MorganFranklin, the State of Kuwait, among many others.

A New Home Office in Down Under

Posted by dc on May 30th, 2010

The mid term holidays are here in few days’ time and this would mean that work will slow down for me in the home office. I also take the time to do a little traveling since it’s almost impossible to work without any interruptions when junior is at home.

Here’s a little confession to make. I haven’t been very diligent in updating all my blogs and sites for a while. Since our part time cleaner left two months ago, I’m busier than before juggling with work, housework and parenting. It isn’t as easy as I think. Apart from these activities, I will slow in a Pilates class in the week and some morning wake-up exercises to get the blood circulating.

I’m thankful that DH handles the finance in the home so I can focus on what I’m best at. He’ll take care of bills and term life insurance matters and I’ll handle the parenting and home needs. I have to thank him for spearheading the video marketing project we are working on though I wish we have more time to watch those training videos.

As we plan our move to down under, we are eager to set up a new home office in our new home. Hopefully by then, we can be more focused and put in more time to build on online internet consulting business.

Sex and The City 3, is it really going to happen?

Posted by Alexandra Reed on May 30th, 2010

Sex-and-the-CityEven before Sex And The City 2 hit the theaters, there were rumors about a 3rd installment of the franchise. If in the first we got to see Carrie’s troubled life for the one, Mr. Big, her first failed attempt to get married and the actually wedding. It had a happy ending, everybody got what they wanted.

In the second part Carrie is sick of a normal family life, Charlotte is facing the real motherhood (not the one you see in movies!), Miranda is having a hard time keeping her job and maintaining a good relation with her family and Samantha is worried about menopause. And to make all those “problems” go away, the four once sexy girls go to a trip to South Arabia.

What they could possibly go through to make a 3rd Sex And The City movie? Is Samantha finally going to settle down? Is Miranda going to leave one-testicle Steve and go for a wealthy man who can afford the money for her and her son? Is Charlotte going to open a daycare? Is Carrie going to divorce Mr. Big because she has Aidan issues?

According to a recent Kim Cattrall interview, there is a good chance we will get to see the wrinkled ladies in a new movie. Of course, that is if Michael Patrick King, the director of the franchise, says so! Hopefully he will wake up one day and realize he needs to find other actresses, a new writer (because the script for Sex and the city 2 lacked important elements, such as … a real script!!)  and he will find a new idea for another franchise.

What do you think? Do you want a Sex And The City 3?
